Theme: Formed by the Risen Christ
We are using the priorities adopted by Mennonite Church USA as a guide for VMC assemblies for the next several years. At Mt. Pleasant, we will be engaging the Christian Formation priority: To increase our capacity as a community of faith to use the scriptures as a faithful guide for daily living.
Using the wonderful resurrection story in John 20, we will explore the interaction of the risen Jesus with his disciples. Jesus gave counsel regarding his own person, the use of the scriptures, the missional task, the journey of discipleship, and the challenge of discernment. In a time of fear for those disciples he offered the continuing presence of the Holy Spirit. The results in their lives have been immeasurable and changed history.
So we now ask what it means for us to be formed by the risen Christ. How do we help our people to engage the biblical record and then live in the companionship of the Spirit of Jesus in our context? We will experience worship, preaching, teaching, and conferring together.
